Celebrating Orange County’s Jewish History

Pictured here is Lena Zirinsky with her sons, Carl, to the left, and Eddie, on her right.  The photo was taken around 1920 in front of their home at 1028 E. 4th St. in Santa Ana; the family-run grocery story was next door at 1026 E. 4th.  Joseph and Lena (Karlit) were from Poland and emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s.  Their four children, Frances, Betty, Eddie and Carl, were all born on the East Coast, and the family moved to Santa Ana in early 1913, when Carl was an infant.  Joseph was in the food business, first owning the grocery and then a café.  His sons followed suit; Eddie ran the Club Garden Room, a banquet hall and restaurant, and Carl owned the Savoy Restaurant, both in Santa Ana.  Their descendents continue to live in Orange County today.  Α
