Celebrating Orange County’s Jewish History

The Zirinsky family moved to Santa Ana from the east coast in 1912, when the youngest child, Carl, was still an infant, and their descendents live in Orange County today. The four siblings, seen below in this photo taken in the 1940s, are, from left to right, Eddie, Frances, Betty and Carl. In 1923, Frances married Louis Weinberg, who had immigrated from Austria in 1920. Louis opened a produce store in Santa Ana and went on to become very successful in the restaurant business. He was one of the founders of Temple Beth Sholom and served as president of the synagogue. Their son Martin, born in 1925 in Santa Ana, was a well-known attorney, and his wife Elaine and their son David contine the family tradition of active involvement in many Orange County organizations, with David currently serving on the board of Federation.
