New faces and places at Heritage Pointe

Heritage Pointe has found a way to serve residents longer in assisted living if they want to age in place and are facing increasing health needs through the new Sage Living neighborhood on the Heritage Pointe campus in Mission Viejo.

Now open to the community, this new neighborhood adds another component of care to Heritage Pointe, which includes independent living, assisted living and memory care.

A Wise Choice
Within Sage Living, staff provide 24-hour care, two-person assists and lifts, medication management, three kosher meals daily, and support activities of daily living. With a better staff-to-resident ratio, seniors who need extra assistance with daily activities and routines flourish.

Sage Living is an excellent alternative for seniors whose care needs exceed what basic assisted living can meet, but who don’t require a skilled nursing facility. It is also a convenient and cost-effective alternative to staying at home and paying for expensive in-home care services. Families can rest assure that their loved one will live in an environment dedicated to care and the highest quality of life, all for an affordable all-inclusive price.

“Many of our assisted living residents want to remain at Heritage Pointe, although sometimes their needs increase beyond our typical care levels,” says Jodi Greenbaum, chairman of the Board of Directors. “Sage Living helps them remain in familiar surroundings while receiving the care they need.”

In this neighborhood, the focus is on the person—not a schedule. Sage Living features individualized care with enhanced encouragement to participate in daily wellness, socialization, and physical activities.

Most importantly, Heritage Pointe is Orange County’s only senior living community grounded in Jewish culture, tradition and values.  Services are conducted on-site every Shabbat by Rabbi Karen Sherman, Heritage Pointe Director of Spiritual Life, in the beautiful campus synagogue. Executive Chef-inspired kosher meals are served daily in the main restaurant-style dining room. Hundreds of Volunteers, donors, clergy and Orange County Jewish community members have been a part of the leadership of Heritage Pointe for all of its 33 years.

A New Administration
With the construction of this new neighborhood as well as improvement of the range of services and amenities on campus, Heritage Pointe welcomes a new Administrator, Georgianna Mendez.

She comes with 20 years of experience in the senior living industry. Georgi has administrative licenses in California and Arizona and a Master’s degree in Sustainable Leadership. Her professional experiences include a number of community-oriented programs including The Senior Suicide Prevention Coalition and Music for Every Ear, a program dedicated to assisting people with dementia, both of which are located in Prescott, Arizona. She came to Heritage Pointe as Director of Admissions and now holds the position of Administrator where she oversees day to day operations and management of our community.

Another change at Heritage Pointe has been the promotion of Shelly Malmon to Director of Marketing & Admissions. Although she has been a Director there for over four years, her impact in the community while doing outreach is considerable. Among other responsibilities, she sits on the Boards of the Community Scholar Program (CSP), the regional board of Jewish National Fund (JNF), VP of Marketing for Congregation B’nai Israel, and lectures at CSULB.

“Heritage Pointe provides the perfect blend of comfort, care and active living,” Malmon says. “Under Georgianna’s expertise, we are now able to offer more programs, more engagement, and more for Jewish seniors to enjoy than ever before”. Rabbis from area congregations visit monthly, and an army of volunteers participate in daily events, entertainment, and holiday celebrations for residents. Now tasked with touring and marketing to prospective residents, she wants Heritage Pointe to become a one-stop shop for Orange County Jewish seniors who are planning for the future.

Complete with lovely apartments and expansive views of Mission Viejo, Heritage Pointe provides the right level of care, including a professionally managed fitness center, well-trained staff on-site every day, award-winning activities and programs, and a community of like-minded seniors. Residents can enjoy dining with new friends in the dining room, get pampered in the newly renovated “Roberta’s Salon” and schedule complimentary transportation for excursions and appointments with the full-service Activities department.
