Reflections: From the Holocaust to the State of Israel
Reflections, Merage JCC’s annual observance of Israel’s national holidays, offers opportunities for our community to commemorate Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), honor Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day for Israel’s Fallen Soldiers), and celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day).
Yom Hashoah: Holocaust Remembrance Day
Community-wide commemoration and candle-lighting ceremony to remember the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust and to pay tribute to the survivors. Following the ceremony, there will be a showing of White Bird. Struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled for his treatment of Auggie Pullman, Julian (Bryce Gheisar) is visited by his grandmother (Helen Mirren) and is transformed by the compassionate and heroic story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during WWII.
