The Raoul Wallenberg Chapter of American Friends of Magen David Adom (AFMDA) has announced two events in August.  Both events will be held at the Vista Room of Casta del Sol, 27651 Casta del Sol Drive, Mission Viejo.  Everyone is welcome.

On August 24 at 6 p.m. there will be Movie Night with AFMDA: Wallenberg:  A Hero’s Story, Part I.  This film is based upon the true story of Raoul Wallenberg, the organization’s, who fought to save the lives of many Jews destined for the Nazi “work camps” with the stroke of a pen.

Wallenberg, a neutral Swede working in Hungary in 1944, recognized the inhumanity around him.  This film has won four Emmy awards and promises to be quite interesting.  Thanks to Anita Gold for suggesting and providing this film for the organization.

Pizza, salad and dessert will be served.  Cost is $7 for members, $8 for guests, $18 co-sponsor or $36 sponsor at time of signup.  Sign up in Rec Room #1 from August 5 to 21 or mail a check.

For more information, contact Jaye Yaruss at (949) 842-2961 or Jaye@BokerYaruss.com.

On August 28 at 9:30 a.m. members and friends can meet Yossi Mentz, the new Western regional director for American Friends of Magen David Adom, at a Sunday morning breakfast and raffle.  Mentz will join the group for a bagel and lox breakfast and speak about this indispensable organization that saves lives around the world.  Mentz will discuss the history, current affairs and the future of AFMDA.  This is a great opportunity to meet him and welcome him to the chapter, according to organizers.

Mentz comes to AFMDA from his post as the executive director of Yavneh Hebrew Academy in Los Angeles.  He is a member of the Jewish Family and Child Services Board.

Cost is $6 for members and guests, $18 co-sponsor or $36 sponsor at time of signup in Rec Room #1 from August 5 to August 19 or by putting a check in the mail.  Please indicate on your check if you would like to be recognized as a donor during the meeting.  The raffle cost will be three tickets for $5, eight tickets for $10 and 20 tickets for $22 for Box Circle Concert tickets for a Pacific Symphony Orchestra performance at the Segerstrom Arts Center.

AFMDA is the acronym for American Friends of Magen David Adom, (which refers to the Star of David).  The Raoul Wallenberg chapter is one of several chapters that make up the only advocacy organization in the United States supporting the life-saving efforts of Magen David Adom (MDA) in Israel, which in turn, are sent throughout the world wherever needed in emergencies, along with the American and International Red Cross.  Funds raised buy ambulances, blood vans, and supplies that are purchased in the US and then shipped to Israel, also providing the nation’s pre-hospital emergency medical needs, including medical, disaster, ambulance and blood services.  The Raoul Wallenberg chapter of the American Friends of Magen David Adom is a dedicated, non-secular, non-profit organization in Mission Viejo.  For further information, go to www.AFMDA.org and click on Western Region.

Everyone is welcome to both events.  RVSPs are mandatory.  Signups begin on August 5 at the rec room, or guests can mail their checks to Jaye Yaruss at 35 Floramar, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688.  For more information, contact Yaruss at (949) 842-2961 or Jaye@BokerYaruss.com.
