News & Jews- Reimagining Weissman Arts

The Weissman Arts Endowment Funds were established at the JEWISH COMMUNITY FOUDATION ORANGE COUNTY (JCFOC) by a generous legacy gift from Albert Weissman & Rhoda Yvette Weissman to promote Jewish art and artists in Orange County. For the past three and a half years, Weissman Arts funds have played an important role in bringing artistic talent to our community. JCFOC is excited to share that as a result of an ongoing evaluation process and with insight from local Jewish nonprofits, a new programmatic initiative has been designed to best serve our community and fulfill the full intention of the Weissman legacy gift.
JEWISH COMMUNITY FOUDATION ORANGE COUNTY is bringing—all the way from Israel—the first 2023 Weissman Artist-in-Residence under the newly reimagined program. Shirel Horovitz will join us here in the Orange County for a month-long residency, beginning May 3rd. The Tel Aviv-based artist is best known for her performances and installations incorporating etchings, sculptures, video, and sound. During her Weissman Arts residency with JCFOC, Shirel will explore finding beauty in the seemingly mundane through her Choreography of Gratitude project.
Shirel will have two joint gallery exhibitions in Santa Ana and at the Merage JCC and will engage our community through her tandem exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and tours. Unique for our community, she will create a community-driven video project that will build throughout her time here. See her exhibits, attend an event, join in the video, and be a part of this living history piece capturing our lives in the OC. Visit jcfoc.org/weissman-arts for a full schedule of events and registration information.
