O.C. Purim Scene

Holiday has many flavors.

Temple Beth Sholom will present the adult Purimspiel, which intersperses skits with the Cabaret-style Megillah reading. Cantorial Soloist Mark Thompson will play the guitar. March 20, the youth-oriented Purim program will include a Megillah reading at 9 a.m. and then a Purimspiel enacted by youngsters and puppets.

Congregation Eilat will be having its traditional “Around the World” themed Purim Carnival on March 24 at 6pm. Every year the carnival features a different country, and this year it’s Japan. There will be a Japanese calligrapher, a sushi workshop, Komono bookmarks, Japanese food, live music and dancing. Call for brochure. Services are the same night, with the Megillah reading at 6:30 p.m.

Congregation Beth Meir HaCohen, North County Chabad Center, will be having a Purim celebration on March 24 at 6:30 pm. There is an Israeli Dinner, prizes for kids in costumes, Hamentaschen, live music, and, of course, the Megillah reading. $20 Adults/$10 Children for RSVPs by March 21. At the door: $25/$15. Congregation B’nai Israel’s traditional Purim Carnival will be on March 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On March 24, there will be a pizza dinner at 5:30 p.m., as well as a pre-school Service; at 6:30pm there will be the regular Service and the Megillah reading. On March 24 at 6:30 pm, Temple Beth El of South Orange County will be having its traditional Service and Purim show. Every year an entirely congregant volunteered cast performs a musical parody of Purim. Last year cast members spoofed Motown, and this year it will be based on a hot and up-to-date Broadway musical — you have to show up to find out which one. Preceded by a Purim Service. Temple Beth Tikvah/Adat Ari will be having a Family Purim Service on March 25 at 7:30 p.m., with a PurimSpiel and masquerade, preceded by a potluck at 6:30 p.m. On March 26 there will be a family dance, Purim Fest at 7 p.m. — a costume ball for all ages.
