Summer Sparks

How IAC Orange County Lit Up July with Community, Connection, and Impact

If one word defined July at IAC Orange County, it was together. From beachside gatherings to leadership workshops, from interfaith initiatives to teen meetups, the month brought people together to connect, collaborate, and celebrate under the California sun.

Building Bridges: A Stronger Community Starts Here

We began the month with Building Bridges, a powerful gathering of nearly 30 Jewish and Christian leaders across Orange County. This wasn’t just another event – it was a meaningful dialogue rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and a united stand against antisemitism and all forms of hate. Participants shared meals, stories, and a vision of a joint Thanksgiving celebration focused on gratitude and unity. Friendships formed, trust was built, and a path toward stronger communal ties was set in motion. This initiative marks just the beginning of a longer journey, and there’s room at the table for everyone willing to take part.

Teens Lead the Way: Connection in Action

Our OC teens stayed active all month through weekly meetups that balanced fun with leadership. The standout moment was Matkot at the Beach, where laughter and waves set the tone for a spirited day of cultural pride and social bonding. With matkot paddles in hand and pizza close by, teens walked away more than sun-kissed, they left empowered, inspired, and connected to their roots.

Home Base: Summer Belongs to Students Too

Recognizing the importance of staying connected during summer breaks, we launched Home Base OC, a Friday night experience for college students and recent grads. It offered more than just food and conversation, it gave participants a space to explore identity, leadership, and their place in the Jewish-American-Israeli story. These evenings blended tradition with relevance, planting seeds for future campus impact.

Tel Aviv After Hours: Community, Unplugged

Midway through July, Tel Aviv After Hours brought adult community members together for a casual, city-style evening in Irvine. Drinks, stories, and laughter flowed under the stars, creating an easygoing vibe that made networking feel natural. With no stage or script, connection became the main event. The format worked, and we’re open to expanding it – let us know if you want to host the next one.

Empowerment Eve: Turning Passion Into Purpose

Led by Aya Shechter and Inbal Greenberg, Empowerment Eve focused on translating intention into action. The session equipped attendees with real strategies for evolving from engaged volunteers to impactful leaders. The message was clear, leadership starts wherever you are, and everyone has the potential to drive change.

Summer Together: Where Families Belong

Our Summer Together series brought families into the heart of community life through easygoing, kid-friendly meetups. Whether on scooters or picnic blankets, these gatherings reminded us that joy, laughter, and a slice of watermelon are all it takes to create connection.

Cafe Tel Aviv: Coffee Meets Community

We wrapped up July in San Clemente with Cafe Tel Aviv, our beloved Friday meetup that’s become a hub for connection and collaboration. It’s a space where ideas flow as easily as the coffee, and every week brings new faces and fresh perspectives.

What’s Next?

July proved that community is more than a collection of events, it’s the shared energy of people who show up. To every teen, leader, student, and family who made it special, thank you. August is around the corner, and the spark is still alive. Let’s keep building.
