OC Mega Challah Bake slated for Thursday, November 13
The website for the OC Mega Challah Bake says it best: “Never underestimate the power of one flame, one prayer, one quiet moment. Soon, we’ll join our lights together—1,000 women strong—at the OC Mega Challah Bake on Thursday, November 13. Every time we light, we step into a mitzvah that began long before us—and continues through us. From Sarah Imeinu’s tent to our own homes today, each flame is a reminder that we are part of a chain unbroken, passing light and faith to the next generation. When we come together, our lights join into something even greater: a glow powerful enough to inspire the next generation.”
Additionally, according to the website, “For over a decade, the OC Mega Challah Bake has been a cornerstone for the women of the Orange County Jewish Community. Together, we RISE!”
The theme of this year’s OC Mega Challah Bake is “One Night, Endless Impact: Together We Rise.” This grassroots effort, powered by volunteers and ably chaired once again by Shana Segall, brings women from various organizations in the Orange County Jewish community together to create something profoundly Jewish. With an expected turnout of 1,000 onsite, it is the county’s largest Jewish women’s event of the year.
According to Segall, “This year’s theme inspires us to be stronger and prouder, to shine our light on our friends, families, and communities. This is a grassroots program, not under the auspices of any community organization. Once a year, dedicated volunteers get together and make it happen.”
She added, “The evening is not just about baking challah. It’s about connecting over a mitzvah that’s been going on for thousands of years—the mitzvah that’s special for us women. It allows us to get together and create something profoundly Jewish. This year’s theme invites us to be stronger and prouder, to be that proud Jew, to shine the light on friends, family, neighbors, people you know and people you don’t know, and walk out of here declaring ‘I am that proud Jew.’”
The OC Mega Challah Bake was sold out last year, so people should register online as soon as possible. Tickets, which are $25 each, can be obtained at
